Fergs Kayaks 21 July 2008
ISSUE #013

We have some great clubs attached to Fergs Kayaks in both Auckland and Wellington. Sometimes our activities feel solitary or maybe you can't get involved because you need to have someone there with you. We want to highlight these clubs for you because you may have been looking for a group like this to join. This month we're showcasing the Eas Auckland Kayak Fishing Club. Don't just have fun kayaking but catch some dinner while you're at it!

I'm also keeping a blog about taking the NZ Kayak Squad to the Olympics, you can click through to it from the newsletter below.

Going for Gold!

Ferg

Ferg takes us to the Olympics

Ferg has teamed up with his old Olympic kayak pal Paul MacDonald (Macca) (they won Gold Medals together) to train and support part of the New Zealand Kayak squad who are heading to the Beijing Olympics. Ferg, Macca and the gang are currently competing in other world class events overseas in the run up to the big event. Ferg will be keeping you up to date on what has been going on for them through the Fergs Kayaks website. You can click through now and read what they've been up to recently, then bookmark the page and check in to see how the competitions are going>>

WRSI Helmet

Like to protect your noggin? Prefer to keep that head looking pretty? We've got the perfect foible to any harm that wants to come your heads way - the WRSI helmet. The beauty of this product is the velcro inserts, so you can put as much or as little padding inside as you need to fit your head perfectly. Not only that but it looks hot too!

Available in store now (and for a limited time in Camo)

East Auckland Kayak Fishing Club

The East Auckland Kayak Fishing Club meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the Panmure Yacht Club at 6.30pm. We are a club of people who are keen on fishing from a kayak; and every month the club arranges a trip to various locations around the region to fish.

We also have a annual fishing competition, for two years running now held at Papa Aroha, just north of Coromandel township. It;s a great time to get together with club members with a little friendly competition thrown in. This adds a bit of enthusiasm when heading out on a cold morning!

It is surprising how well you can do so close to shore. One of our members recently caught a 17lb snapper off Eastern Beach. Who would have thought you could catch one that size so close to shore! Sure beats paying $200 in diesel to get you to Barrier Island; and you get some exercise in at the same time.

Steve Gurney & Frano Botica for tea

An invitation for you, our customers, to a charity fundraising dinner and auction with guest speakers:

Steve Gurney (Multisport and Coast to Coast legend) & Frano Botica (former All Black and Rugby League player).

In February 2009, two ordinary Wellingtonians (Craig McIntosh & Andrew Stevenson), who have absolutely no multi-sport experience, have set themselves the goal of competing in the grueling Speight's Coast to Coast. This in itself is not that amazing - what is amazing, is the target of fundraising $50,000 for CanTeen (young people living with Cancer) - the money raised will go towards decorating/furbishing  the newly constructed CanTeen ward at Wellington Hospital.
